  • We recently visited the Reno area and did numerous birding side trips. Here are a few of some American Avocets and a Stilt. There were flocks of both down around Beach 10 at Lahontan Lake, NV.  (These were taken with a Nikon 300s with a 70-300mm Tamron lens, no tripod or monopod.)

  • If any member is interested for a project i have a early figure with a bearded e/e head for sale for £6 plus £3 post.

The figure is clean with no deep scratches with twisted elastic and good stiff joints. The hard hands are repros i think by looking at it,maybe cotswolds.

The head has hair loss under the chin and on the chin itself.

The figure has two tiny tiny leg splits in the usual place, top thighs.

Overall a good display item for kitbash or modification.

  • I looked out the window around 7:00 a.m. this morning and was very surprised to see a Mallard couple under the front feeder!  They grazed around there for a good 15 minutes, then went on other side of bushes into the front lawn and just sat there for at least another 1/2 hour.

  • So, here is a post that was made on Facebook by the owner of an LSS that I go to 2-3 times a year on weekend getaways.  I have even actually arranged my days off to go there because she is only opened a few days a week.  I do that simply because I like to support an LSS, even if it is not "my" LSS.  It is a super tiny store with extremely limited hours and a Michaels approximately 8 minutes from her store.

    Here's her initial wall post:

    Just a little note:
If you buy your tools and accessories from the chain stores please don't ask me to spend 20 minutes out of my day to teach you how to use them.
(That's one of the reasons I no longer sell Spellbinders dies.)
    Thanks!

    Here is my response:

Aw, I get the frustration. However, if their tools are sitting unused because they couldn't figure them out, then they won't be buying your products to use them with. Just a thought.

    She responds:

I don't sell eyelets, so for me to teach someone who bought a crop a dile ages ago and threw away the instructions doesn't do anything for my business. I'm just the easy "go to" guy because most people who work at the chain stores don't even know what scrapbooking is.

    Here is my response back:

I totally hear you. In my initial response, I was thinking more along the lines of paper and cardstock though. They can't use their eyelets without that. LOL And, if eyelets are involved, stamps, Washi tape and other embellishments can't be far behind. I do wish you the best. You've kept your store open for a long time while so many other LSSs have bitten the dust.

Well, you know my thoughts. What do you think?

  • – It is better you die an old maid than marry a man that is fast. –

(For more of Dr. Warner's words of wisdom, visit http://www.turkeycreeklane.com/?cat=194)

Who wants to be the "Old Maid?"

That was a favorite card game when I was a child - players match pairs and the one left with the single "old maid" card was the loser.  I was mortified whenever I was the old maid, lest people think I really would be one!

Funny, she was often pictured as the stereotypical librarian ... but in searching the Internet, I found this wonderful vintage photo of a real old maid, a woman to be admired, who pursued higher education and became a doctor (a gynecologist, I believe) in an age when it was unusual for a woman to do this.

For this "Old Maid" challenge, use a pair of "old things" from your stash to embellish a layout - anything older than six months that you haven't used in a while will do -  and then add one more "old thing" that "doesn't match" the first two.

For example, I might use two different stamps from my stash and then add a journaling card.  Or I might use brads and eyelets and then add a ribbon.

Paper and title letters don't count as your "old maid" selections - instead, dig out those old stickers, ribbon slides, buckles, tags, eyelets ... I know you have a stash!

Post your layout here by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, and be sure to tell us what "old maid" items you used!  Design Team is eligible to play.

You can make four cards if you prefer (but it will be a lot more work!).  For cards, you may use the same pair of old things plus one more old thing on every card (no need to find unique ones for each separate card), but the cards themselves must be unique and not carbon copies.

So ... who gets to be the old maid?  :)

  • When DH called to check up on us last night he told me that he had talked to the guy that gives him orders. He was told that we couldn't have our #1 pick (Germany) and I was okay with that. He did say that we could have our #2 though provided that the kids and I were going with him. So, it looks like we will be moving to Camp Henry (Deagu ?), South Korea in October. This could still change, but I'm really hoping that it doesn't. We want to go overseas again since the kids are old enough to remember it.
  • This is a very short black & white video of the factory. It might be interesting for those that haven't seen it. There's little snippets of the production process, shame it's not longer.

  • While birding in Webster Park 2 days ago, I happened across these woodchucks.  The young one was really light and its eyes appeared blue!  I looked on-line and did not find anything about this unusual appearance...any ideas?

  • boy was i puzzled by the bird rump going into the house on the pole
I had to watch for over an hour to get another chance for a photo I could actually tell what bird I was seeing.  It is about 100 ft from the house.  between those darn window deviders and the trees shrubs now blooming it was hard.  TT is the answer..  Al had put a weird cover over the hole before we went away and it seamed birds had a hard time getting into it.  But I knew they would be very protected once in there.  I was super happy when we came home and saw we had two houses being used..  Tt in the pole house and house wrens in the patio house.  shhhhh don't tell anyone I have two houses.... lol  I also saw the Male cardinal still feeding his lady.  The cat bird came to get grapes.  and suet...

  • i would like a general consensus veiw of the members on the forum regarding this.issue, we the dukeries section have now adopted the policly, that if we are to attend any classic car/bikes shows, within the yorks area, we have requested, free addmission, if not we will not attend, why should we as classiccar/ bike owners keep putting our monies into the pockets of the fat cats that are making maybe hundreds of pounds, in add min fees off us owners, and the likes we have had qutie a few enquires, regarding we as a club attend their venues, alot still want us to pay to display at their event but we have flatley, refused, now we have put the ball in their court, and lo and be hold 2 organisers have got back, to me and have now offered free addmission,by all means let the public pay but not the classic car/ bike owners, the only exemption we make is for charity events and good causes, regards john dukeries section rotherham south yorkshire, sad

  • So Ive got the Morris Oxford, #344, the Austin farm truck, and Trailer 25C

Obviously they all need a set of tires. I have a question about the Oxford. The ones Ive found on google are red and white, but the front fenders are red. Mine are white. Is that original, or did someone paint them? And I also have a question about wheels for the austin. I have one for it, thats a soft grey plastic, it is unlike the others that have metal hubs with tires. Are those wheels available?

  • A dear friend of mine has her husband in the hospital hooked up to all kinds of tubes, etc.  He got a major infection in his leg after some minor surgery (probably from the surgery center he went to -there is a lawsuit that should happen).  He is 80 plus years old.  He has a nasal feeding tube, he has lost over 15% of his body weight (and he was a small man to begin with).  They have him on major antibiotics, they have him on oxygen, etc. His kidneys aren't  functionally properly and he has some fluid in his lungs.  One doctor suggested "pallative care" which means stopping treatment and let nature take its course and keep him comfortable.  She isn't listening to that advice.  They are now discussing a line directly(?) into his stomach for feeding.

I tried to gently talk to her about "just keeping him comfortable" and seeing what happens and she won't hear of it.  She thinks if they just keep pumping enough antibiotics into him, he will get better.  The problem is those major antibiotics come with their own side effects.

How does she think he is ever going to be anything more than in a bed in a nursing home?  Oh did I mention he has been repeatedly treated for bladder cancer.

I know her husband well and I know he wouldn't want all this being done.  Other folks have tried to talk with her but she isn't budging.

  •    I stopped by a little park at south end of Irondequoit Bay yesterday...lots of Canada Geese there.  Most interestingly, a Kildeer came running from under a shrub, calling loudly and it scrunched down in the grass next to a piece of trash, a box with a clear cellophane wrapper.  It looked to me like it was trying to hide!  It popped its head up several times before standing back up, looking around, then running off through the parking lot.

  • HI,

I am trying to source for my own collection. Does anyone know who may have a genuine piece for sale?

    Thanks in advance,

    Chris Okell.

  • got it today hope you like it

  • I have been building as a hobbyist since 1962. I am a Pack Rat. I am loath to throw any thing away. Building kits that date from 1950 to 1980 means  that many of my e-Bay finds have decals that are no longer usable for one reason or another. I also like building different versions than the kit decals provide for. I get a kick out of recycling my accumulation of kit decal sheet fragments to finish many of my builds.

I went to the Zip-lock bag system a while back. I divide my decals into separate bags by the following categories: U.S., British & Commonwealth, French, German. Japanese, Soviet & Russian, Italian, all of the rest of the foreigners, civil, stripes, and antique HisAirDec and Letraset. The Rubbermaid box has all of the miscellaneous fragments. the roaster pan is used to sort through the appropriate bag for a given project. I know there are better ways to do this, but it works for me. I rarely spend high dollars for aftermarket sheets, and those are mostly generic national insignias.

    Adios, Larry.

  • Well that was a little bit of excitement for the day! :-)

  • anyone else had trouble with site 2day or is it just me?smile

  • It's been a while since I've posted anything. Quickly, to update, I'm over 200 days since bone marrow transplant and still cancer free. That means there's a 90% chance it will not return. However, I now have Graft vs Host Disease, which is getting to be pretty severe (i.e. I've lost the ability to use my legs) and lead to death. So, I'm a long way from being out of the woods, but I still have a  good chance of success.

Now, to the real reason I am posting. I'm selling T-shirts to pay  a few bills. I don't want charity, just $12 for a chance to send you a  quality T-shirt. A sample of the shirts are on the "coach millers team" page on facebook. You can buy the shirts with this paypal  address:    coachmillersteam@gmail.com  . Just put the quantity along with size(s)in the comment box. Remember to use the gift, or send money to a friend to avoid fees. Thanks to all of you for your support. If you can't buy a shirt, a prayer would be most humbly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rich

  • Good to have you all back after an unfortunate crash smile it nearly gave me a heart attack crying but all better now grin

  • Hello

informed this morning that the splendid chaps that provide the forum platform will be moving the forum to a new platform provided by Yuku.com.

Their email (see below) suggests that this will be achieved painlessly with only a 15 minute or so interruption to the service  preservation of passwords, existing postings and search engine ranking etc etc - but the user interface will change.

What can possibly go wrong as the silly sod said as he undid the bolts holding together the front suspension units of facial reconstruction whilst his wife prepared to call the ambulance of emergency?

  • Bummed, dd wants to stop ballet and start gymnastics because it is "cooler" (she's 8 almost 9, going on 19). I don't want to be that pushy mom, but she really has an aptitude for ballet, she walked solely on toes for 3 years as a toddler. She's got the build for it, long legs, lean. Her teachers really encourage her to continue. And tonight waiting in line for oldest's band concert a stranger commented that she must do ballet, and sure enough she was playing her iPod but standing with her feet in 5th position. Where's the line between encouraging and overbearing? I don't want to force anything, but then again without prodding the kids would be happy to lay on the couch and play video games 24/7!
  • One band concert down, one ballet rehearsal, then recital, two awards ceremonies, one class play, end of year testing, and the kids want a start of summer slumber party! Woohoo 3 more weeks of school! I can do this, right?? Moms of olders, I don't know how you do all this!!!
  • Hi there, Im looking for a playworn MkII Cortina. If anyone has one, Id be happy to take it off your hands :)
    Thanks,
    David
