  • Hello to you all.
Just found this forum, what a joy.
The hop picking thread sure brought back some memories and Bermondsey boys picture of Manzes pie n eel shop made my day, took my missus there for lunch when we were courting 1970's (extravagant, what !)  she used to work at Matthew Hall in Gt Dover St. Coming from Bromley, she had never heard of Pie n Mash. Cant keep her away from Jellied eels even 30 years on !!!

Anyway, look forward to some good memories.

  • Did anyone have a mum like mine??  She knew every superstition going and believed them.  No lilac or may blossom allowed in the house, crossed knives meant an argument, if anyone put new shoes on the table it sent her manic, no umbrella allowed to be put up inside the house, she never refused a gypsy at the door selling pegs or heather, oh and and a really strange one - if you see an ambulance hold your collar until you see a three legged dog??  Where on earth would you see a three legged dog.  There were loads more which no doubt will come to me  but a lot of good it did her as she was only 57 when she died.  Are these nationwide superstitions or just weird London ones.  My lovely old mum - many memories.

  • Hi, Can anyone help with info please? My mother was born in Woodlands Place Bermondsey in 1915 and had the surname Chaproniere. She had an older sister Francis and they lived there with their mother and father until he died of his injuries after WW1. She and her mother and sister moved to Cleethorpes in approx. 1920. I've tried before to track Woodlands Place down but this is the first time I've seen anything mentioned on the net, nothing ever showed up before?

Are there any photos about of Woodlands Place around this time? I'm trying to put a scrap book together for my Mum (98 in a few weeks!!!) and it'd be great to have one of her childhood street.

    Here's hoping.......

    Thanks

  • RIP Evelyn Woodall who moved into a flat on Harold Estate, Pages Walk with her mum in 1945 after being bombed out.  She was still living in the same flat when she died recently aged 94. A true Bermondsey girl.

  • I've got proof man, the Mainland Chinese tourists are learning manners. I saw one take a piss up against an elevator near TST earlier today. The parents are teaching him well - he could have shit and piss in the elevator - but HE FUCKING DIDN"T! HA! PROOF! He had the common courtesy TO PISS UP AGAINST THE OUTSIDE OF THE ELEVATOR ITSELF!

SO MAN, WHO SEZ THE MAINLANDERS DON'T HAVE MANNERS?

    Pictures will follow.

  • ED SNOWDEN, NSA WHISTLEBLOWER

Oh well Ed, they're coming for you now. I mean, what were you thinking man? China of all places? Oh yeah, they'll welcome a man who doesnt like state surveillance here.

WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING ED?

But hey, kudos to you - you have got some big cajones.

Anyway, for those of you who don't know  - here he is - ED MR LET IT ALL FUCKING HANG OUT SNOWDEN - can I get a round of applause??? - SOMEONE GET THIS MAN A HOOKER!!!

PS ED - WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE FILES ABOUT THE LIZARD MEN WHO RUN THE WORLD? GIMME GIMME GIMME! NOT COOL MAN, I WANT THEM FILES!!!
