  • Good morning everyone,

Today is National Splurge day, I hope you marked your calendars because it is the one day you can go without feeling guilty about splurging on something decadent for yourself. Your splurge today can be a decadent dessert, maybe purchasing something that you have always wanted, or many you have not had a steak lately because you do not have the money. So today look at the checkbook and see where you can splurge on yourself or maybe someone else in your life.

We are going to have another day here in Southeastern VA with potential rain throughout the day. Our temps today will be in the 80's again, when I let Coco out this morning it was a little muggy already. Summer is here for sure.  I am already looking forward to fall for sure.

Off to work in a little bit. I had my mid-year review yesterday and it was pretty good. I am not thrilled with my numbers so I will have to work harder to get them back up a little. Today thought I will work on my extra project and then if possible head in to help the team work the regular sheets.

After work I will head into school and start reading my last three chapters for class. There is a lot to do this week being our final week. It kind of stinks because he has discussion questions in the final week. Oh well I know I will get everything done before class ends on Monday.

Dinner tonight is up in the air. I might have Mike take something out of the freezer that he would like.

Have a beautiful day everyone and stay cool.

  • Good morning everyone,

We are in the middle of fruit and veggie month so today let's highlight veggies. We should be eating at least 2-3 servings of veggies a day. It should be easy with many area's of the country beginning to have some fresh seasonal veggies coming into season. I love fresh veggies and enjoy coming up with different recipes to put them into.  So today remember to add an extra serving of veggies to your meal plans.  Hey you might think about making today a meat free day and finding other sources of protein while adding in some yummy veggies.

We are watching for the rain here in Southeastern VA.  After a nice mild weekend the rain is on its way for the next 3 days. The temps are going to be in the 70/80's over the next few days, I wonder with the rain coming in if we will be icky and muggy with the rain here as well. The rain will stay with us for a few days before summer weather heads back in.

The weekend is over and it is time to head back to work. I am not sure how much we have but it depends on how many requests the stores sent in. I am thinking we should have some new stores coming on line as we have been expanding some of our patterns over the past couple of weeks. It should be interesting.

After work it is home to go to school. I have two more problems to complete and I will be done with week 4. I start the final week of cost accounting tomorrow.  It should be another busy school week. I am hoping to take a day off over the weekend.

Dinner tonight I am not sure. Maybe a meat free dinner should be the plan to celebrate eat your veggies day.

    Have a wonderful day everyone.

  • Good morning everyone,

Today we celebrate Old Glory the American Flag. Our flag celebrates independence and our unity as a nation...one nation, under God, indivisible, you remember the Pledge of Allegiance. So today show your pride in America, raise the flag, and let it wave proudly. Did you know that the flag is flown sunrise to sunset, and if you fly it at night the flag must be illuminated. Also there is a special ceremony to burn the flag when it gets old and tattered.

The heat is gone for a few days and a bit cooler temps will be here with us over the weekend.  The storms came through last night bringing in cooler temps and let me tell you the temp drop was appreciated.  The weekend should be nice and sunny for Father's Day weekend. My dad and sister will be down tonight so we can celebrate tomorrow.

Ladies we have made it to Friday and the work week is almost over.  We have not had a lot of requests to do and my boss has given me a project to work on and she would like it to be done by next Thursday. I did not meet my goal of 4 pages done yesterday so I will concentrate to make 5 pages to make sure that I am on track come Monday.

After work today I will head home to some chores and get a little bit of school done. I did accomplish what I wanted to yesterday and today I am going to write up my last discussion question, get in my participation, and maybe work on one or two of my assignment questions. I think I will wait until all the information is in for the team project before I write mine.

Dinner not sure. Maybe just some leftovers. We do not have a big fridge here at the apartment so cleaning it out is always necessary.

    Have a great day everyone.

  • I can't talk to J for another week probably and it's stressing me out. I hope they get my new local number approved SOON.

  • I hadn't heard from J in over a week but I got a letter today. It was dated all the way on the 5th and they didn't mail it out until the 10th! What is up with that? Oh well... At least it came and he said I am his one true loyal love and it is so happy. AND SO AM I.

  • Josh and I met in 2006 through a penpal ad he'd posted. It was so amazing right off. We were almost married in 2010 but somethings happened and we seperated. We have been back in contact and it's the best thing that has ever happened to both of us. We have loved each other for so long and it's finally coming together for ever.

  • Hi Neighbors,
The other day, my kids came home after several hours of playing in the woods (Garrison Tree Park). My Daughter informed me that the number of kids playing in there, has been slowly rising since she, and her friends, first starting playing in there several months ago. It appears that most of the kids are from Watson Elementary. She says that they have made maps of the woods, built make-shift "forts", and have established some ground rules to break up into teams to play games. She also tells me that sometimes they get rained on, have disagreements with eachother, and have found that their "forts" have been tampered with while not under their watchful eye. Then she tells me that sometimes they have to deal with teenagers that walk through and challenge the younger kids, swear at them, and threaten them. She also tells me that there has been a number of times over the last couple of weeks where a grown up, walking her dog, has stopped to voice her displeasure directly to the kids. Apparently, this woman tells off the kids for "damaging the forest" and for not using the area for its intended purpose.
Here's what I tell my kids, and their friends, to do when faced with these challenges. I tell them to put up with the rain, to sort through their disagreements with their friends on their own, to stick together as a group, and report to us immediately if they get threatened by teenagers. And what about the older lady who curses them out for playing in the woods? Well, I tell the kids to politely ignore that miserable lady, and to play on!
I spend a lot of time walking through the neighborhood on my way to the gym, coffee shop, etc. and now I make sure to include the forest as part of my route. This is so that I can check on the kids, the well-being of the forest (make sure that it is safe from broken glass, needles, etc.), and to make sure "bad teenagers" and "ornery folk" aren't spoiling the kids' fun.
My point is this; if you are a parent in Garrison, keep an eye out for the safety of all of the kids playing in the woods. It's a great place for them to just be creative, develop their inter-personal skills, and get some exercise. If you are one of those people, threatening teen-ager or angry older person, please just leave the kids to do their thing. Don't spoil it! If you do, be prepared for the the wrath of the kids. They may be small individually, but their numbers are growing as a group and, as I always tell them, "There is strength in numbers, so stick together".

  • Good morning everyone,

Today is sewing machine day! I know you are very excited and might feel that you need to go and dust off your sewing machine to make something small. Well I know I should but that will not happen today. Today is celebrated not to pull out your sewing machine but because it was a very important invention in history with the first sewing machine's being built in the 1830's in France but it was not patented in the U.S. until 1846. This was an important invention in history because prior to the sewing machine clothes were stitched by hand, can you imagine how long it took to sew clothes?

It is another hot hot hot day. Our temps today will be in the high 90's with humidity coming in with it.  We are expecting thunderstorms in the afternoon, nothing new for the summer weather.  After we get through the heat of today it will be a little bit cooler after the front goes through the area. I have to say we are in for some nice weather to enjoy Father's Day weekend, which is nice since Mike, my sister, and I are taking my dad on the Spirit of Norfolk on Saturday to celebrate a day early.

We have made it to Thursday and the work week is almost over, yippee! The stores have been cooperating and not sending in a lot of requests. So hopefully today will be the same though we have not finished the days requests, I think everyone is taking their time.  So today we shall see what happens and potentially work on our goals and IDP.

After work I will read the two appendix's in the chapter for the week, complete my second discussion questions, and get my participation in. Who knows if I have time I might even start working on my team paper.

Dinner tonight I am not sure. I know Mike has to work in this heat today and might not be in the mood to eat much. So we shall see. I ended up making some beef stroganoff with the left over steak last night, it was yummy.

Have a beautiful day, stay cool, and safe.

  • 1 lb. hamburger
    1 medium onion
1 medium green or red bell pepper
1-28 oz. can whole (cut up) or diced tomatoes, including juice
    1-1/2 cups frozen corn
    1 lb. spaghetti
    salt
    pepper
1 lg. block of Velveeta Cheese

Finely chop onion and bell pepper and place in skillet with hamburger and cook till hamburger is browned. Drain. Add tomatoes and corn, salt and pepper to taste and cook til corn is hot. During this time, also cook spaghetti according to package directions. Drain spaghetti and place back in large pot, and then add sauce mixture and stir together thoroughly. Slice up Velveeta cheese block and set aside.
In large, deep baking dish, add 1/2 of the spaghetti mixture, then top with 1/2 the Velveeta cheese slices, then the second half of the spaghetti mixture, and top with the rest of the cheese.
Bake in  350*F oven for 30-45 minutes, or until cheese is browned. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

  • I first found this site almost 4 years ago when my wife started going through MLC.  With the help of everyone on here I made it through and we pulled things together.  The last two years have been spent rebuilding and it seemed that things were going well.  We had reconnected and were making good progress....until last week.

A little background...we have been together 15 years, married 14, and have two boys 15 and 11.  We got married very young and have struggled financially and had some bumps in our relationship but nothing every relationship goes through from time to time.  After her MLC, we were able to be more open with each other and she was able to admit that she had never been "in love" with me but she does love me very much.  We are best friends and have been a beacon to our friends of a good relationship and doing what it takes to make it work.

I have known that she felt like something was missing and have always done everything I can to be there for her.  She got a breast lift and augmentation about 9 months ago which has helped her self esteem.  She didn't go huge, in fact nobody can even tell she had anything done, but she feels better not having to worry about what she can wear.  She also started college and is working toward her dream career.  She will be done a couple years before our youngest graduates.  Since we had kids so young we have been talking about how nice it will be that she will have a good career too and we will be able to move wherever we want and begin our life together.  She has really seemed content in her life.

She got a message on Facebook from her ex-boyfriend last week.  They dated for 2 months, 17 years ago, but besides me it was her longest relationship.  He is a cop and is moving to be closer to his kids and needs to list all of his ex-girlfriends on his applications.  She was upfront with me about it and I joked that he is just trying to find her to try and get back with her.  She said "no way, he has young kids and I don't want that".  She chatted with him a little on Facebook and didn't hide any of it.  Just innocently filling each other in on their lives.  I had a bad feeling though.  He was going to be in town on an interview and she said they wanted to meet for coffee and to catch up.  I expressed my concern and she insisted that I have nothing to worry about, that she is commited to us and nothing will happen.

So they meet up for about two hours on Friday.  Saturday she spent at home studying for finals this week while me and the boys hung out at our friend's house.  Sunday she spent studying and me and the boys hung out at the house.  She texted him a bit and again was upfront that they were texting and share some of the things they talked about.  Having been through this before, my gut was telling me that something was wrong so I checked our phone records and found that they had spent 2 straight hours texing on Saturday and when I checked her phone she had deleted them.  I thought I would just wait until she was done with finals so as to not distract her but thought "why should I suffer this week?"  So I asked her on Monday night if I could look at her texts with him.  I could tell by the look on her face that we were in trouble.

Apparently, in the two hours they spent together at a local coffee shop, she realized that he is her one true love and is ready to throw away our 15 year relationship.  I told her that I can't keep doing this and that if she needs to "explore" her feelings for him then we are done.  Either she wants to be with me or she doesn't.  She said she didn't think she could feel like this about anyone and had resigned herself to the fact that she wouldn't and was ok with that.  She was prepared to spend the rest of her life with me and the life we had built, but she can't ignore this.  I told her that if that is her stance then we are done and she needs to move out.  Of course she won't and won't leave the kids.  We have been living on my income alone for the last year so are not in a good position financially.  She received some inheritance money last year from her grandma and used that to get her boob job and a cruise for the family at the end of this summer and her schooling.  Of course, she won't use that to move out.  She is going to get a job when school is out but until she is able and we can figure out how to handle all of this she will still be living with me.

She tells me that he is trying to be respectful. I told her that if he was being respectful, he wouldn't be trying to date a married woman, but apparently he feels the same as she does.  He is in a relationship that is less than a year old so he isn't giving up much to make this happen.  I told her that I do not want her meeting up with him while she is living in my house.  I will not have my "wife" dating while I am still supporting her.  There isn't much I can do about them talking on the phone and texting.  She said they will not make it physical until our divorce is final but will continue to talk to him.  I told her she is trying to have her cake and eat it too.  She is able to get to know him and see if it is real while having the comfort of living with me.  If she and he were truly respectful and honorable they would cease all contact until she can move out and our divorce is under way.  Of course she doesn't see it that way.  The fact of the matter is, I can't force her to leave the house and she has money she can use on a lawyer and so does her mom, so if I force the siftuation she can destroy me.  If I play along we will probably be able to work this out without lawyers but I am stuck living with her until she gets out.

My brain is swarming and I know I am rambling.  Any advice is welcome and I'm sure I'll be able to add more as it comes to me.

    Thank you

  • Good morning everyone,

Today is Red Rose Day it is time to enjoy and appreciate one of America's favorite flowers the red rose. Roses are easy to grow and in many area's begin blooming in the month of June.  I have always noticed the cooler it is the more roses bloom. The red rose signifies love and it is appropriate that in the month of many wedding's the red rose is highlighted. You find red roses in many bouquets during the wedding season. So today if you think of it treat yourself to a red rose, even if it is a silk one because those last forever.

The heat is here in Southeastern VA. Our temps today are looking to be in the mid-90's with little to no breeze. I think a morning walk is in order for sure, not too sure about an afternoon walk because of the heat. We should be in the heat for the next couple of days but it looks like we will have a bit cooler and nicer father's day weekend. The only issue with the heat is that it spawns thunderstorms at a whim.

Off to work in a bit and we made it to the middle of the week. The stores are cooperating with us and have not been sending in a lot of requests. We shall see what the stores did last night and how busy we will be. At least we have our extra training to work through to complete.

After work it is off to school. I did not get any reading done last night so tonight I will get it completed. If I am so inclined I will work on my discussion questions. I know I will complete my participation for the day for sure. I would like to start on my other assignments if possible between today and Friday.

Dinner tonight will be something with leftover steak. I am not sure yet what I will make but it will be something fairly easy I am thinking.

Have a great day everyone and stay cool.
