Coulter described that central nervous system damage can be exhibited as abnormal behavior of the child. In 1935, Thomas Rivers, experimental allergic encephalitis (EAE) can be the result of a viral or bacterial infection of the nervous system. "The fact of the matter is that it is a matter of record that it was known that vaccination produced encephalitis since 1926." The authors stated, "In regions in which there is no organized vaccination of the population, general paralysis is rare. ... It is impossible to deny a connection between vaccinations and the encephalitis (brain damage) which follows it."

  • Let the experiment begin!

    Hello everyone!
I've been following a high intensity regimen for a few months, and seen some great improvements. 30 lbs weight gain, enormous strength gains, and it's hard to ignore the way women have been responding to me recently...
I've had a few conversations with HVT promoters, crossfit promoters, etc etc and I've grown tired of them all saying HIT doesn't work, at least not in the capacity we all say it does. Just the other day I talked with a high school friend who lifts 6 days per week, 1.5-2 hours per day. He was shocked when he heard my schedule; especially shocked when he saw the weights I was using. So I've got an idea for an experiment. The experiment is simple. I'll follow a high intensity regimen for one month, taking complete measures of my body on day one and day thirty-one, along with my best lifts on their respective days. I'll actually be trying to lose weight for the duration of this month, unless my strength decreases or stagnates, or some mitigating factor like I become sick.

    ---------
    ---------

    My statistics are as follows:
    Height: 6'3.5"
    Weight: 224 lbs
    Chest: 46.25"
    Biceps: 15.75"
    Upper arm: 12"
    Waist: 35"
    Hips: 37"
    Thighs: 26"
    Calves: 15.25"
    All measurements were taken cold.

    ---------
    ---------

The following are my best workouts (which incidentally were my last 2 workouts). All lifts follow a 4-2-4 cadence.

    Best arm lifts:
Lateral delt raise machine:                         175X9 plus 2 negatives
Lat Pullovers:                                          260X8 plus 2 negatives
    Supersetted palms-up pulldowns:               205X2 plus 2 negatives
    Butterfly:                                                 260X5 plus negative
Supersetted Incline Press:                         190X1 plus negative
Supersetted Decline Press:                        185X2 plus negative
    Tricep Pressdown:                                   215X8
Supersetted Dips with 25 lbs attached:       2 plus 2 negatives

    Upper Body Workouts:
    Day one:
    Lateral delt raise
    Bent over laterals
    Pulldowns
    Tricep Pressdown
    Dips

    Day five:
    Butterfly
    Incline
    Decline
    Pullovers
    Pulldowns

    My best leg workouts:
    Squats:                                                315X4
    Calf Raise:                                           140X9 plus 2 static/eccentric reps

My leg workouts were performed on days 3 and 7; then arm workouts started again on day 9.

    ---------
    ---------

I'll be consuming roughly 2500 calories/day. And without getting too insane, I'll be consuming roughly 20% fat, 25-30% protein, 50% carbohydrates, making sure to cut out refined sugars, and getting 100-150% fiber recommended by the FDA.

    ---------
    ---------

My goals for this month are:
    10 pounds fat loss
.25" increases on all measures, except for waist and hips measurements
1" decreases in waist and hips measurements

    ---------
    ---------

My purpose in starting this experiment is three-fold.
1: I will (obviously) increase my size and strength greatly
2: I hope to interact regularly with this board, thereby increasing both my mental acuity and cognitive     abilities in addition to my physical prowess. Knowledge is power. Let's be powerful!
3: I will have infallible evidence of my success, and the HIT community will have one more case            study to refer to.

If anyone could give me further tips on how to speed up my muscle growth (in terms of frequency or which particular exercises to use) I'd greatly appreciate it!

We can start with the fact that my dips stagnated from their previous best after I introduced decline presses as another supersetted exercise after incline presses, though I gave it 4 days' rest. Is this increase entirely unnecessary, or is it great, and I just need more recovery time?

I'm not solid on post workout recovery--I've been taking 25 g protein with 25 g sugar to spike insulin and drive protein into my muscles--along with a potato shortly thereafter to avoid that sugar crash. Could this be improved?

Let's prove just how fast HIT can change a body and mind when applied correctly. I've been lifting for 6 years, and only now am discovering how right HIT is. It's about time everyone discovered what I have!

Thanks everyone! I'll be updating my stats every 7 days, so watch out for next sunday!

  • Self -Improvement

Tranquility lies in self-improvement. Lord, help me to worry less about the faults of others and use my energy to enhance my own strengths and eliminate my weaknesses.

If you have more than you need, but still feel it isn't enough, then you are poor. Lord, may I take time to recognize and enjoy my blessings.

  • Certainity

    CERTAINTY

"The certainties of one age are
    the problems of next."
    -- R. H. Tawney

I was a religious bigot. I did not know that I was a bigot, but now I see how closed and
narrow my thinking was. I craved for certainty because I felt it would give me security
and happiness but it never did. I argued dogmas that I did not believe; the plight of the
    unhappy hypocrite!

Today I live only in the certainty of the day. Today I know that what worked for me
yesterday will work for me today if I am open to love, truth, honesty and change.
Change is not necessarily "difference" if I see it as part of a process rather than an
event. Yesterday is linked to today, and together they forge tomorrow. The one thing
    of which I can be certain is change. The God of Truth is revealed in the change;
the acceptance of this fact is spirituality.

May I continue to grow in the spiritual life by my continued desire to change and be
    tolerant.

  • keep It Simple

The purpose of freedom is to create it for others.---Bernard Malamud
Sobriety is freedom. With this freedom, we have a responsibility to help other addicts who still suffer. The program tells us this in Step Twelve. We do this by telling our stories and offering hope.
We must be ready to care, to give ourselves. This is what spirituality is about. When we help others, we prepare the road for those who enter the program after us.
Tradition Five of the Twelve Traditions says, “Each group has but one primary purpose---to carry its message to the alcoholic who still suffers.” It means we get better by helping others.
Prayer for the Day:  Higher Power, help me create more freedom. Bring me to where I’m needed. Help me carry the message well.
Action for the Day:  Today, I’ll think of ways I can help the addict who still suffers. Then I’ll chose one way I can be of help. I’ll talk with my sponsor about it, and I’ll follow through with my plan.

  • Friendship

    Spaces in Togetherness
    Friendship
One of the beautiful aspects of AA is the bonding that develops among members.  We truly do achieve a closeness with some people that is unlike anything we ever had before.
The danger in such friendships is that we may become too close in some ways.  Without realizing it, we may be making too many demands on others' time.  This can become suffocating to them and eventually detrimental to the friendship.
In such situations, we need to remember the words of Kahlil Gibran; "Let there be spaces in your togetherness."   However, close we feel to others, we must allow them their space.
We should also remember to respect others' privacy as well as their anonymity.  AA should give us close friendships, but not to the point of suffocation.
I'll remember today not to overstep my boundaries in any friendship.  There must be spaces in our togetherness.

  • As Bill Sees It

    To Grow Up, p. 330

Those adolescent urges that so many of us have for complete approval,
utter security, and perfect romance--urges quite appropriate to age
seventeen--prove to be an impossible way of life at forty-seven or
    fifty-seven.

Since A.A. began, I've taken huge wallops in all these areas because of
my failure to grow up, emotionally and spiritually.

    << << << >> >> >>

As we grow spiritually, we find that our old attitudes toward instinctual
drives need to undergo drastic revisions. Our demands for emotional
security and wealth, for personal prestige and power all have to be
    tempered and redirected.

We learn that the full satisfaction of these demands cannot be the sole
end and aim of our lives. We cannot place the cart before the horse, or
we shall be pulled backward into disillusionment. But when we are
willing to place spiritual growth first--then and only then do we have a
real chance to grow in healthy awareness and mature love.

  • 24 Hours A Day ~Novv 28th

    A.A. Thought For The Day

The A.A. way is the way of sobriety. A.A. is known everywhere
as a method that has been successful with alcoholics. Doctors,
psychiatrists and clergymen have had some success. Some men
and women have got sober all by themselves. We believe that A.A.
is the most successful and happiest way to sobriety. And yet
A.A. is not wholly successful. Some are unable to achieve
sobriety and some slip back into alcoholism after they have had
some measure of sobriety. Am I deeply grateful to have found A.A.?

    Meditation For The Day

Gratitude to God is the theme of Thanksgiving Day. The pilgrims
gathered to give thanks to God for their harvest, which was
pitifully small. When we look around us at all the things we
have today, how can we help being grateful to God? Our families,
our homes, our friends, our A.A. fellowship; all these things
are free gifts of God to us. "But for the grace of God," we would
    not have them.

    Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may be very grateful today. I pray that I may
not forget where I might be but for the grace of God.

    ATTRACTION, NOT PROMOTION

Through many painful experiences, we think we have arrived
at what that policy ought to be. It is the opposite in many
ways of usual promotional practice. We found that we had to
rely upon the principle of attraction rather than promotion.
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, pp. 180-81

While I was drinking I reacted with anger, self-pity and
defiance against anyone who wanted to change me. All I wanted
then was to be accepted by another human simply as I was and,
curiously, that is what I found in A.A. I became the custodian
of this concept of attraction, which is the principle of our
Fellowship's public relations. It is by attraction that I can
best reach the alcoholic who still suffers. I thank God for
having given me the attraction of a well-planned and
established program of Steps and Traditions. Through humility
and the support of my fellow sober members, I have been able
to practice the A.A. way of life through attraction, not
    promotion.

  • Grip Strength for Deadlifting.

    Hi Bill (and everybody else).

I deadlift once a week at the moment. I may reduce frequency in the future but at the moment it seems to be working pretty well for me. I do 1 or 2 sets of deadlifts and I go to the point where my glutes and hamstrings fail and I can no longer squeeze the bar off the floor.

At the moment my grip is strong enough to hold onto the weights that I lift but I can sense that in the not too distant future, it will become an issue so I figured I would pick your brains and see what you recommend I do to strengthen my grip so that it doesn't become a limiting factor.

At the moment what I notice is that only negative portion of the last couple of reps, my grip is nearly failing and when the bar gets back to the floor I have to regrip - which is what's bugging me. If I go heavier, this issue may become apparent earlier in the set.

I was think about possibly doing static holds as they seem to be the most similar thing to deadlifting regarding grip strength if that makes sense. Are they worth doing?

    If so:

How many sets of holds should I do?

How long should each hold be?

How long should I rest between sets if holds?

I was told a long time ago that if I ever did static holds, I should do them with the bar behind me so that I can't cheat and rest it on my thighs. Is that correct?

Thanks to Bill and anyone else who provides any words of wisdom!

  • Daily Reporting for 28 November

The GOOD NEWS is I only bought $17.00 worth of books for Black Friday. Most were for Christmas presents and ALL were from the Half Price bookstore, so they are recycled.

I repeated my mantra, "Is this going to make my life more simple, or more complex?" And it helped me to only buy things I need, but when some of them were only fifty cents, I probably over-indulged for my grandbaby. I'll have to remember that a bargain, especially on books, is a trigger.

As we are getting out the Christmas decorations, I am starting to purge some of the old old stuff. Not nearly enough, because each item has a memory. Yep, another trigger. Memories are also a trigger for saving stuff.

    Lessons learned today:

Triggers for wanting or keeping stuff--and getting in the way of decluttering and simplifying my life.
    1. Bargains, (especially when it comes to books, gifts, grandbaby)
    2. Memories attached to items

    Trigger Lesson from yesterday:
    1. "I might need this in the future"
    2.  Memories

Geez, who would think this was so complicated. This meta-analysis is helpful.

  • what to do with a single girl if I'm married??

Confused here! Im married w/ kids, but I do have an open marrige. My wife knows everything about this. I met this girl a couple of months ago in a business environment that we meet once aweek n every once an while we can have individual meetings to talk about business n we have after hours events etc. I want to date this girl cuz I like her alot n if it goes into sex, well thats good too! If i wanted only sex, then I wouldnt be messing with this one, I would just pick up a girl at a club. She's not that type n I know she doesnt drink n go to clubs. I'm also not looking to loose my family over this either.
Well, we had eye contact a few times n noticed something. She started to talk to me about business and we scheduled to eat lunch together, business but I felt something else. Then we met at a small, group of 7, business meeting/lunch. Sat together again and shared our food. I know this is nothing, but things keep just happening with her. Like these are business meetings n end up seating together n sharing our food. Like when I needed a ride home cuz my wife couldnt n this girl happened to be at the parking lot n she game a ride home. The 3rd is at a business after hours event, which my wife went with me n she was there. Thats how she met my wife, but the whole time, she avoided to meet my wife. Both my wife n me noticed that she was very uncomfortable with it. This is a girl thats very hot, a 10 in my mind, n very very outgoing. So, I was worried that her n my wife would become good friends n I was wrong, she could not be herself at all. All this was that what led me to feel that something might be there even though she knows Im married. So thats when I started to get interested n that I was going to try to invite her to things n see how she reacted. The 4th was on a 3 hour training meeting at night that she was late 2 HOURS, but I felt she went there looking for me cuz she was there almost at the end, no use at that point to show up if she went there for training. She sat next to me n thats went she told me she had a very rough day n look very down. I asked if she wanted to go get a coffee or something so we talk about it. She accepted and thats when she told me she was broken hearted n crying. That she has been in n out of a relationship, but waiting for him. She also gave me mixed signals by telling me that she doesn't mess around and only looks for marrige material. We talked till midnit that night. Because of the situation, I did not wanted to take advantage of her feelings n make a move then. I just listened n gave her advice. A few days later, at a meeting, she was like nothing a avoided to talk to me. I called her a few days later to ask her if it was ok for to just call her to invite her to things. At first she said it was ok n then she said she was going to think about it because "she was in tender moments right now". I said we'll talk later about it. 2 weeks later, I saw her at a meeting n she said she was going to call me. She didn't. I texted her that day to ask her out n she accepted. So we went out this past Sat. nit (a week from today). This the only real date we have had. I have been trying to advance things; so we went to a play/show n took taxi there, took advantage to get a limo back to our cars n drank some champange. later to a restaurant n walked to her car n she drove me home. She looked ok with everything but I just couldnt get the conversation to a romantic level. She talks too much! I also feel that she was hiding behind her talkative self so she can keep things in the comfort level n waiting for me to make a move n I couldnt.
After all that, I just could not see a chance to get very close. She seamed too inocent! Thru all this, she knows Im married and doesnt ask about my current situation at all. My question is, should I have been more agressive or what? Do you think that I lost my chance? what do you think is going thru her head as far what Im looking for since Im married? Do you think Im in the best friend zone or thats a good thing in my situtation for now?
My last contact with her was that sat nit when we went out and drove me home. We left it as that she was going to invite me somewhere, but don't know when. At the end, I said I'll see you...well dont know when since we dont have a meeting next week cuz of the holidays so next meeting is till Dec3. She said, well...have a great thxsgiving. So we said bye, a hug n thats it. Since it has been 3 days already, I texted her on (this past Tues) telling her that I wanted to see her b4 thxsgiving, n that till next meeting was too long. Possibly tomm after work so I can take her to a happy hour to a place we talked about. I even texted something that I know she will laugh about. She never replied. Last thursday when I invited her for sat. she replied in 2 minutes.

Need some advise as how to take it from here and how often should I text/call her or not.

    Thanks! Rico

  • Kidney Failure

.11/26/09) I often tell my nine doctors that I will give them all up before I give up my Acupuncturist, Steve Phillips, and my Bowen Therapist, Christine Jones. I have been seeing Steve for about three years and Christine for over ten years. I had open heart surgery last July 12th, 2006 and was able to endure the post-operative chest pain because of Steve's expert care. I have had over 19 surgeries in my life span of 66. Being a high maintenance client, I usually look like a pin cushion while Steve is working on all my dysfunctional body parts. Acupuncture has significantly improved my sciatic pain and neck pain. I come out of treatment feeling like a new person and have a big smile on my face. I have recommended Steve to anyone who tells me about their aches and pains. I am so relaxed that I even fall asleep during treatment. Trust me, if your fear of needles has kept you from seeking treatment, don't hesitate another day and call Steve. Be kind to yourself. Steve will help you with all your insurance questions and get you on the road to feeling better. ___ I have been on dialysis for three years waiting for a kidney transplant. I have dialysis three times per week. After two months of acupuncture the length of my dialysis sessions were reduced from three hours to two. Also, my KT/V has gone way up, which means my kidneys are doing a better job of cleaning my blood of toxins. My memory has also improved. My faith has kept me strong and Steve Phillips has enabled me to look at each day as a blessing. My husband, Jim, recently became a patient of Steve's for his serious neck problems and has obtained significant relief from pain. In the July-August issue of ARTHRITIS TODAY the article says that acupuncture "helps regulate the nervous system which can stimulate the release of the body's natural pain-fighting endorphins." Being treated by Steve on a regular basis has enabled me to stay positive and endure whatever life throws my way. Sandi K. http://acupuncturehealingarts.com/kidney-failure.php

Well I just went in for my third nephrostomy change and the doctor exclaimed that my kidney looked "beautiful." No sign of damage at all. The only real change I'd made was that I'd been eating 3 tablespoons of flax seed oil in cottage cheese & yogurt every day for a month and a half (before the proceedure). Olynyk http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=67224 ___ __A Success Story Using Traditional Chinese Medicine __The owner of the clinic, Dr Ching-Chuan Yeh, is a Taiwan-trained practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine. He has also worked closely with western doctors, including pediatricians at Montreal's St Justine's Hospital for Children. Dr Yeh listened to my husband's story. Then he measured the pulse in both of Marcello's wrists. He looked at his tongue, his eyes and skin. Within minutes Dr Yeh declared that Marcello had no cancer but said that he had damaged his kidney and needed treatment. ___ __The "growth" revealed by the CAT scan was probably a clot of blood that the kidney had immediately produced in order to protect the injured area. ___ __Kidneys--Energy Regulator ___ __According to the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, the kidneys regulate the storage of nutrition in the body and the use of energy. Marcello's treatment would thus be two-pronged: the first step would be to flush the "growth" out of his kidney and detoxify this vital organ; the second, to build up the kidney and the entire body. Dr Yeh prescribed a two-week regimen of herbal treatments. ___ __Every evening I boiled a bag of herbs containing a combination of at least 14 different herbs, including licorice root (Radix glycyrrhizae), myrrha and Chinese angelica (Radix angelicae sinensis). The herbs were boiled in eight cups of water until reduced to three and then divided into three one-cup doses for the next day, one dose to be taken after every meal. Dr Yeh also prescribed herbal pills and a diet to include more eggs and other energy-rich foods once a week. For even though my husband was eating well (all fresh foods, nothing processed, packaged or frozen), his energy output was not being adequately fueled. Every two weeks he would return for a checkup and another two-week batch of herbs and pills. As Marcello's condition improved, Dr Yeh would adjust the prescription of the herbal formula. ___ __For 10 months my husband drank the admittedly terrible-tasting herbal tonics that I boiled every evening. Almost immediately he began to feel powerful surges of energy coursing through his body. Many times he told me that he could sense the action of the herbs working in him. During this time he endured two more CAT scans and a second painful cystoscopy. Between the first and second scans several months passed, yet there was no telltale sign of cancer growth. Even the urologist was forced to admit that surgery might be premature. ___ __Finally, in spring 1999, the radiologist who performed the third CAT scan and compared these results with the results of the first two scans declared that there was no cancer now--or ever. The "growth" in the right kidney may have been an old injury sustained during Marcello's soccer-playing days in Belgium, which years later was aggravated by overexertion. Thus, after more than one year marked by grief, anxiety and worry, western specialists finally confirmed Dr Yeh's original--and correct--diagnosis. Had we not consulted him, Marcello would today be missing a kidney, and a healthy one at that.
-------------- No dialysis and stopping dialysis http://renux.dmed.ed.ac.uk/EdREN/EdRenINFObits/NoRRTshort.html from EdREN, the website of the Renal Unit of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh ___ __If your kidneys have almost completely failed, you can decide not to have dialysis. This page is a short summary of why some people choose to do this. Longer and more detailed information is also available. ___ __Isn't dialysis a lifesaving treatment? Dialysis is lifesaving for fit and healthy people who have kidney disease, but it is not an easy treatment. Here are some problems that can occur: ___ * Dialysis often requires long treatments in a diaysis unit, where machines are used to treat your blood. Typically this is for at least 4 hours, 3 times each week ___ * The treatment itself can be difficult for some people to cope with, mentally and physically ___ * Complications of dialysis can be serious and even fatal ___ * There is a strong chance that some people will spend a lot of time in hospital getting started on dialysis, and with complications of the treatment or of other illnesses. ___ __Who might find dialysis difficult? Those who find dialysis particularly difficult usually have other serious illnesses as well as kidney disease. Here are some conditions that can cause serious problems: ___ o Serious heart or lung disease ___ o Severe narrowing of arteries to the legs ___ o Advanced cancer ___ o Dementia ___ __Very old people are more likely to find dialysis difficult, but this is often because they have other illnesses. If you have been physically active with good health (apart from kidney disease), old age is not such a problem. ___ __How long could I expect to live if I had dialysis? Everyone is different and you will need to ask your doctors about this. People at highest risk (e.g. elderly with one or more of the illnesses listed above) may have only a 50:50 chance of living longer than one year, even with dialysis treatment. ___ __Sometimes it is obvious that dialysis is not going to prolong life much, only make the remainder of a patient's life more difficult and unpleasant. ___ __Sometimes 'no dialysis' can give a better quality of life, with less involvement of hospitals, and you may live just as long, or nearly as long. ___ __How can I stay well without dialysis? Here are some things that can help: ___ * Good diet - advice from a renal diet specialist is very important. ___ * Anaemia treatment - special treatments to control anaemia can be very helpful ___ * Fluid management - medicines called diuretics ('water tablets') and being careful what you eat and drink can prevent fluid from building up and causing breathlessness ___ * Blood pressure - controlling blood pressure can prevent kidney function from getting worse ___ * Other treatments - many treatments can help with the symptoms of kidney failure, or of other diseases that you may have. ___ __ Your renal unit may provide all of these, or they may get help from other units or specialists. ___ __What is it like to die with renal failure? Dying with renal failure is usually peaceful and it is not painful. Most people who make the decision not to have dialysis have other diseases. It is very common that, after making the decision not to have dialysis, people die from another illness before dialysis would have been necessary. ___ __ I don't think I want dialysis. What should I do? You must talk to your doctors about it. It is important that you find out what your own prospects really are. You should usually also mention it to your family and close friends. ___ __How long can I expect to live if I have dialysis? There is a lot of information that can help here, but no way of telling exactly what will happen to any one person. Our own figures are not very different from other similar centres, but they can only give a very rough estimate that must be combined with your own doctors' opinions. ___ Survival on dialysis ___ LOW RISK PATIENTS ___ Under 70 years old with no other illnesses 90-95% are alive after 2 years of treatment (more if younger) ___ MEDIUM RISK PATIENTS ___ 70-80 years old, or under 70 years old with one other serious illness* 2 out of 3 are alive after 2 years of treatment ___ HIGH RISK PATIENTS ___ Over 80 years old, or any age with two serious illnesses* 1 in 3 are alive after 2 years of treatment ___ http://renux.dmed.ed.ac.uk/EdREN/EdRenINFObits/NoRRTshort.html ___ __Kidneys are one of the most vital organs of the body, and damage to them must be prevented by all means. Survival is threatened when kidneys are badly damaged in a disease, and their function impaired severely. Hence, the infection must be controlled/ eradicated immediately with proper antibiotics, otherwise the kidneys will be damaged as a result of a long-standing/ recurrent infection, called chronic pyelonephritis. ___ __The situation becomes grim when an attack of acute pyelonephritis/cystitis subsides in about 1-2 weeks, even without treatment. This happens in cases especially where there is no obstructive lesion in the urinary tract. Although the patient feels no symptoms, the infection persists and damages the kidneys in a slow gradual manner. This asymptomatic infection of the kidneys (although the patient goes on passing bacteria/pus cells or albumin in urine), is most dangerous, as ultimately the kidneys may fail silently, and the patient begins to feel helpless, unexpectedly. Such is the treacherous nature of infection of the urinary tract. ___ __As a result of chronic infection, the size of the kidneys goes on reducing. It becomes small, scarred and contracted, with hardly any function it can perform; it fails markedly / completely - this is called renal/kidney failure. ___ __A patient of UTI - (Urinary Tract Infection) should never feel that since he has no symptoms, he needs no test or antibiotics. Hence one should realize the value of mass awareness with regard to UTI. It has been aptly said that 'what the mind does not know, the eyes cannot see, and, therefore, chronic UTI can be arrested/ controlled soon enough, if there's general awareness in this regard. ___ __Detection of occult / hidden cases of UTI ___ __If a survey is conducted regarding the detection of occult/ hidden cases of UTI, one will find a substantial number of cases that have no symptoms of any kind related to cystitis/ pyelonephritis. Hence, a periodic examination of urine for albumin, as well as a microscopic examination of the urine collected properly for pus cells is the most useful test for the detection of such cases. A frequent examination of urine is an essential requirement in cases which are more prone to this trouble. All such symptomless cases of UTI must be treated with suitable antibiotics so that infection in the urinary tract is eradicated and the kidneys are saved from damage. ___ __What should be done for UTI? Under these circumstances, the only way to safeguard against kidney infection/UTI is to strictly follow the preventive guidelines, and one should be aware of the various clinical signs and symptoms of both cystitis as well as pyelonephritis, so that the patient can report to the physician/ specialist concerned at the earliest, for investigations, treatment/eradication of infection from the urinary tract, before the disease subsides on its own, or recurs, causing irreparable damage to the kidneys. Treatment should be taken under a specialist's guidance, and even the maintenance dose of antibiotics for the urinary tract may be required for a long time/even for years in some cases, so as to keep the kidneys free from infective organisms. Treatment should commence at the earliest possible moment. A case of cystitis should not allow pyelonephritis to develop, and cystitis should be treated energetically, so that the infection does not flare and damage the kidneys.

--------------- POSSIBLE CAUSES OF KIDNEY FAILURE ___ chronic illness over a period of years ___ 1. High blood pressure (hypertension) -- [The added force of elevated blood pressure exerted on the glomeruli can cause damage and scarring; then, the nephrons containing the damaged glomeruli eventually lose their ability to filter waste from your blood] ___ . High-Protein Diets (too much meat) -- [eating your protein raw may keep this problem in check] ___ 2. the tubules or glomeruli become damaged or diseased (Kidney diseases) -- [These include clusters of cysts in the kidneys (polycystic kidney disease), kidney infection (pyelonephritis) and inflammation of the glomeruli (glomerulonephritis), a condition that causes your kidneys to leak protein into your urine and damages nephrons] ___ 3. blood flow to kidneys is disrupted (Kidney or renal artery stenosis) -- [narrowing or blockage of the kidney artery before it enters your kidney; In older adults, blockages often result when fatty deposits accumulate under the lining of the artery walls (atherosclerosis) - often associated with high blood pressure] ___ 4. Toxins -- [Ongoing exposure to fuels and solvents, such as carbon tetrachloride, and lead — in lead-based paint, lead pipes, soldering materials, jewelry and even alcohol distilled in old car radiators — can lead to chronic kidney failure] ___ . mercury -- [from fish, polluted water] ___ . Tobacco use -- [The chemicals in tobacco can damage the lining of your artery walls, which promotes narrowing of the arteries] ___ 2. [They say UNKNOWN, but probably conventional high carb toxic diet] -- ___ [This produces low thyroid levels, high insulin levels & other damage to organs] ___ 3. kidney abnormalities ___ 4. certain congenital heart defects [like rheumatic fever or heart murmur?] ___ 5. Excess weight -- [As the volume of blood circulated through your blood vessels increases, so does the pressure on your artery walls] ___ 6. Hypothyroidism (not enough thyroid hormone) -- [This is possibly caused by inflammation, surgery, certain medications [or mainly high carb toxic diet]] ___ 7. cold remedies, decongestants, pain relievers and prescription drugs ___ 8. Long work weeks (with unhealthy eating, less exercise, more stress and less sleep) ___ __POSSIBLE CAUSES OF EDEMA ___ 1. Kidney disease -- [When you have kidney disease, your kidneys may not be able to eliminate enough fluid and sodium from your blood; The extra fluid and sodium increases pressure in your blood vessels, causing edema. ___ [So the edema may have been due to kidney problems; Edema associated with kidney disease usually occurs in your legs and around your eyes] ___ 2. Kidney damage -- [Damage to the tiny blood vessels in your kidneys (glomeruli) that filter waste and excess water from your blood can result in nephrotic syndrome; One result of nephrotic syndrome is low levels of protein (albumin) in your blood, which can lead to fluid accumulation and edema] ___ 3. Congestive heart failure -- [When one or both of your heart's lower chambers loses its ability to pump blood effectively, the blood can back up in your legs, ankles and feet, causing edema] [And blood pressure drugs cause congestive heart failure] ___ 4. Leaks in tiny blood vessels (capillaries) -- [This leakage can result from damage to or increased [blood] pressure in the capillaries; When your body senses the capillaries are leaking, your kidneys begin to retain more sodium and water than normal to compensate for the lost fluid from your blood vessels; This increases the amount of fluid circulating through your body, which causes the capillaries to leak more; The fluid from the capillaries leaks into the surrounding tissue, causing the tissue to swell] ___ 5. Weakness or damage to veins in your legs -- [Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a condition in which the veins in your legs are weakened or damaged and can't pump enough blood back to your heart; The remaining blood increases pressure in the veins, causing swelling] ___ 6. Inadequate lymphatic system -- [Your body's lymphatic system helps clear excess fluid from tissues; If this system is damaged — either due to lymphedema that occurs on its own (primary lymphedema) or because of a disease or medical condition, such as cancer or an infection (secondary lymphedema) — the lymph nodes and lymph vessels draining an area may not work correctly and edema results] ___ __POSSIBLE CAUSES OF GOUT ___ 1. your kidneys excrete too little uric acid -- [due to kidney problems] ___ 2. your body produces too much uric acid -- [from eating too much organ meats, anchovies, herring, asparagus and mushrooms] ___ __POSSIBLE CAUSES OF HEART ATTACK ___ . See above ___ . 100% of all root canals result in residual infection -- [The toxins given off by these bacteria can cause systemic diseases of the heart [including heart attack], kidney etc.] ___ . Higher Doses of NSAIDs May Bring on Heart Attacks -- [Even over-the-counter drugs like aspirin, Motrin, Advil or Tylenol can put you in the same boat as the 60,000 who died from taking Vioxx]

Common causes include: ___ * Diabetes. Diabetes mellitus is a leading cause of chronic kidney failure in the United States. Chronic kidney failure is related to both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. ___ * High blood pressure (hypertension). Untreated or inadequately treated high blood pressure is another common cause of chronic kidney failure in the United States. The added force of elevated blood pressure exerted on the glomeruli can cause damage and scarring. When this happens, the nephrons containing the damaged glomeruli eventually lose their ability to filter waste from your blood. ___ * Obstructive nephropathy. This occurs when urine outflow is blocked over time by an enlarged prostate, kidney stones or tumors, or by vesicoureteral reflux, a condition that results from urine backing up into your kidneys from your bladder. This is a narrowing or blockage of the kidney artery before it enters your kidney. In older adults, blockages often result when fatty deposits accumulate under the lining of the artery walls (atherosclerosis). Kidney artery stenosis can also affect young women in the form of a condition known as fibromuscular dysplasia, which causes the walls of the arteries to become thicker. If this system is damaged — either due to lymphedema that occurs on its own (primary lymphedema) or because of a disease or medical condition, such as cancer or an infection (secondary lymphedema) — the lymph nodes and lymph vessels draining an area may not work correctly and edema results. ___ http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gout/DS00090/DSECTION=3 ___ - Gout occurs when urate crystals accumulate around your joint, causing the inflammation and intense pain of a gout attack. But sometimes your body either produces too much uric acid ___ --->>>or your kidneys excrete too little uric acid. You may be entitled to compensation and we can help. What is the problem? A pyrogenic reaction is a condition wherein the patient experiences an extremely high fever within 72 hours of receiving a dialysis treatment. These high fevers are caused by extremely large infections and will usually cause hospitalization. While the dialysis patient is in the hospital, they can expect to receive treatment with intravenous antibiotics. It is very unfortunate that many people who suffer from these high fevers caused by pyrogenic reactions never recover and die within days. The source of the pyrogenic reaction infections is bio film contamination. Bio film contamination is caused by bacteria found in the water contained in a dialysis machine. The worst aspect of these types of infections is the fact that the bacterium is injected directly into a dialysis patient's blood stream. Through this process, the bacteria will get around the bodies natural defense mechanism and is the reason why these types of infections are so very dangerous. Hi,

My name is Andy. I'm 49 yrs. old and have been training inconsistently from about the age of 16. Followed Mike Mentzer's training since the late 70's. I even had a few phone consults with Mike Mentzer back in the 90's.  I'm currently 5'9" and 185 lbs. with a 33 in. waist and roughly 20-25% bodyfat level.  My current goal is to reduce my bodyfat level along with whatever muscle I can possibly gain at this point in my life.  I'm guessing I'd probably have to get down to 165-170 lbs. to attain an 8-10% bodyfat level.  I currently train once/week alternating front squats/dips with front squats/pulldowns.  Its control of my diet that I have the most amount of difficulty with.  But with a wife, two teenage kids and a FT job it ain't easy.

  • Let's Get Right Back To The Program!

I just wanted to leave a post of encouragement to all of you out there that cheated yesterday.  (I include me in that group, so don't feel guilty)  Remember when you decided that you could cheat because it was just one day and wouldn't hurt your progress too much as long as you got right back on the program today......Well, today is that day.  Don't let it get away from you.  If you're not careful, before you know it, you will be promising yourself that you will get back on the diet on Jan 1.  Then by Jan 1 you will have gained way too much back.  Kick the carb monster out of your house TODAY!  You will be glad you did it.  I speak of this out of experience.  It has happened to me before.  But not this time.  I won't let the carb monster win this time.

  • Daily Reporting for 27 November

Went through one box of papers yesterday. Had some things to recycle, but I was amazed how attached I am to old reports, stories, lessons, handouts and other teaching materials.

Even old overheads, some I just couldn't depart with. Several of them gave me ideas on how to rework the content to tell important stories/lessons.

So, I guess the moral for yesterday was that even though I didn't get to recycle as much old stuff from my files, I got rid of some things--and I now have a new file of ideas to recycle.  What do they call that? Evergreen content????

    Hello everyone!

My name is Michael, I'm 21, and weigh 230 pounds. I've always been interested in ways to enhance my athletic performance; this is why I eventually came to HIT. In the last 4 months, I've put on 30 pounds, most of it in muscle. My strength and size are both better than ever before; I'm getting stronger with each workout, and loving it. I look forward to interacting with all of you, sharing the knowledge I have, and gaining knowledge from each of you, as iron sharpens iron. Let's get big :)

  • Strange Lump in Mouth

I have had a quick read through this forum trying to work out if what I have is a mucocele.  However I can only find descriptions of lumps on the inside of the lip or cheek.  I have a small lump, that appeared maybe 3-4 days ago on the bottom of my mouth, behind my teeth.  It is a small pea shape, and it is solid/hard.  Does this sound like a mucocele and should I be getting it checked out?

  • Thanksgiving

I hope all had a happy, symptom free Thanksgiving, as I know many of us have to keep careful food diaries to avoid an attack. This is not always easy when we go out or are invited over to dinner. My daughter had us over and I had a great dinner without problems. Yesterday was bad with severe symptoms and flushing all day and unable to eat anything but crackers. Other than hives now with itching, I did fine. Be well, Lu

  • Dieting and a HUGE change in paradigm with some videos.

Ok guys, I think this is going to stir the pot, but I do believe that this guy is correct. This guys name is Jorge Cruise, and has a new book coming out in January called The Belly Fat Cure, also a movie is coming out which I don't know much about, maybe its called Death by Sugar, or something like that.
Ok, now here are some of the concise statements that he has made to change everyone's paradigm and directly challenge the old one.

He states that people don't gain weight by eating to many calories, people gain weight by having high insulin, and high insulin is caused by sugar and carbohydrates.
He states that having high insulin locks in belly fat.

Then he says that to lose weight you do not need to count calories, or cut calories, you only need to lower your insulin, and if you lower and manage your insulin levels you will lose weight regardless of how much you eat.

His specific method for lowering and controlling insulin is called the "Fifteen-Six", which means 15 grams of sugar and 6 servings of carbohydrate.
    ----The Rules for the "Fifteen-Six"----
    1. You must eat less than 15 grams of sugar a day.
    2. You must not eat more than 5 grams of sugar in a single meal.
    3. One carb serving is 5-20 grams
    4. You must not eat more than 6 servings of carbohydrate a day.
    5. You must not eat more than 2 servings of carbohydrates (up to 40 grams) per meal.

He says that if you can count your carbs in this fashion, that you will be controlling your insulin and you will lose weight fast.

Ok, so I started this 2 months ago and set out to prove him wrong. I did the 15-6 like he said, but I upped my calories sky high! I started to eat extra fat and protein on purpose. For example, I eat 1/2 pound bacon cheese burgers from a local bar on a regulair basis, but I toss the bread and put it in a low carb wrap. I have been eating Low carb cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory, which is over 600 calories a slice, and has like 39 grams of carbs, I put heavy cream in my coffee with stevia every day. Low and behold I have lost 8 pounds on a diet that would normally make me fatter from excess calories. Dude, it's the 15-6. I am losing weight on a extra high calorie above maintenance diet. In fact I am sick of overeating all the time, and I am ready to stop this insane high calorie diet because now I get really warm and feverish after so much food. I even have red wine all of the time. I did no exercise at all during my experiment.

Please do not automatically reject this because it is a change in traditional thinking, I believe this guy did it, its like he broke the diet code. All this info is free on youtube

    Questions

  • No Pic, but wondering if this could be what I have...

So, I've had this lump on the inside of my lower lip just below the corner of my mouth. It's been there so long now I can't even quite remember how long, I'd say at least 5 years. It started out small and I thought was a little canker sore. It has never hurt. It's grown very gradually over the years. It's now a little bigger than a pea size I'd say. It has looked from kinda clear to now more of a whitish color. It doesn't seem fluid filled like described by others. I can bite it and it feels more hardish than fluid, like fatty tissue feeling. I've seen a dentist at least twice a year and none of them have ever even asked me about it. I know I should bring it up myself, but it's been embarrassing. Since it's been so long I'm not too worried that it's cancer, but I guess you never know. It's more bothersome than anything because sometimes I accidentally bite it when eating. Any thoughts? Thanks

  • OMG

    Live your blessings
    *********************

It is good to reflect upon thankful thoughts. It is even
better to continually put thankfulness into action.

The way to be truly and fully thankful for what you have is
to put it to use. Abundance grows more abundant when it is
    exercised.

Life's great and wonderful blessings are not for hoarding.
    They are for living.

What's important is not how much or how little you have.
What's important is what you do with it.

You won't find richness in the objects of your desire. True
richness comes in the living, dynamic expression and
    fulfillment of those desires.

Be genuinely thankful for your good fortune by applying that
good fortune in an authentic, purposeful direction. Make
good use of life's goodness, and there is no limit to how
    valuable it can grow.

    RECOVERY

"There is a destiny that makes
us brothers, none goes his way
alone. All that we send into the
lives of others come back into
    our own."
    -- Edwin Markham

I can remember when I felt so isolated and alone. I used to look at people talking
with their friends, families playing in the park, lovers holding hands, and I felt so
different and awkward. I always looked at life from the outside. I was the guy without
an invitation to the party. The symptoms of addiction!

Today I know that my actions and behavior around alcohol reinforced these negative
and destructive feelings. By my drinking I was perpetuating the painful disease in my
    life.

Sobriety led me into fellowship with others; it brought me into the family of
recovering people. Today I am not alone. I have over a million brothers and sisters
living a day at a time in a spiritual program. I have countless thousands finding joy,
peace and serenity in sister programs. Today I belong in this world.

O God, thank You for giving me the need to give so that I might receive.

  • Keep It Simple ~Love

Love is the reward of love.---Johann von Schiller
When we used alcohol and other drugs, we shared little as possible. There was little love in our hearts. We had become selfish. This caused us to be lonely.
Then something happened to change all of that. Remember the first time you walked into a meeting? You were met by people who shared. Maybe they shared a smile, their story, or just a cup of coffee with you. The sharing that goes on in a Twelve Step program is great. We learn that the more we give, the more we get. We get well by giving to others. Helping others is a great way to hold on to sobriety. Love is the reward of love.
Prayer for the Day:  I pray that I will be there when others need me. I pray that service will become a big part of my program.
Action for the Day:  Today, I’ll think of friends who could use my help. I’ll talk to them and offer to be there for them.

  • Understanding alcoholism!

What ought to work-- but doesn't
    Understanding Alcoholism
One of the old theories about alcoholism was that we drink because we had deep psychological problems.  It followed that if we could clear up these problems, we would no longer need to drink excessively.
Another theory was that staying dry for a long period of time would dislodge one's alcoholic tendencies. After a certain length of sobriety, we would be able to return to normal drinking.   (NOT)
Both theories sound plausible, but in practice neither has worked. Many  of us came to grief trying to make these ideas work.
What we eventually learn about psychological problems is that they may intensify our  troubles, but they are not the real cause of our alcoholism.  The cause may be rooted in some physical problem that enables us to achieve unusual highs from drinking.  We also know that one drink acts as a trigger for more drinking---  at least for us.
Our answer has been, first and foremost, to eliminate the first drink. Even if it doesn't square with theories, it works.
No matter how long I've been sober, one drink would be deadly to me.  Accepting that fact enabled me to get sober after finding that theories about my problem weren't working.

in all matters touching upon alcohol, each of them has decided to turn
his or her life over to the care, protection, and guidance of A.A.?

Already a willingness has been achieved to cast out one's own will and

self-centeredness, inner conflicts, the habits of
    procrastination, undisciplined sex, wasting money,
boredom, false perfectionism, and jealousy and envy of
others. We are glad to be rid of our drinking, and we
are also very glad to be rid of these other things. We
can now go forward in the new way of life, as shown us by
A.A. Am I ready to go forward in the new life?

    Meditation For The Day

"He that has eyes to see, let him see." To the seeing eye,
the world is good. Pray for a seeing eye, to see the purpose
of God in everything good. Pray for enough faith to see God's
care in His dealings with you. Try to see how He has brought
you safely through your past life so that now you can be of
use in the world. With the eyes of faith you can see God's
    care and purpose everywhere.

    Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may have a seeing eye. I pray that with the
eye of faith I may see God's purpose everywhere.

    THE HAZARDS OF PUBLICITY

People who symbolize causes and ideas fill a deep human
need. We of A.A. do not question that. But we do have to
soberly face the fact that being in the public eye is
    hazardous, especially for us.
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 181

As a recovered alcoholic I must make an effort to put
into practice the principles of the A.A. program, which
are founded on honesty, truth and humility. While I was
drinking I was constantly trying to be in the limelight.
Now that I am conscious of my mistakes and of my former
lack of integrity, it would not be honest to seek
prestige, even for the justifiable purpose of promoting
the A.A. message of recovery. Is the publicity that
centers around the A.A. Fellowship and the miracles it
produces not worth much more? Why not let the people
around us appreciate by themselves the changes that A.A.
has brought in us, for that will be a far better
recommendation for the Fellowship than any I could make.
