  • Hi, Doug - I added red nitro's to my Cobra 2000. They all power on with external supply, so, the install went well. Can you give me a good spot to solder the postive wire and also the negative wire inside the radio? :)

    I want this bad.  I probably want this more than I want 2.1 now. 3x the performance boost would alleviate any of the seldom annoyances I have with the phone which all boil down to occasional lag. Whenever this trickles down to the community i WILL root my phone if I have to!

    Do you like to shot videos with your favorite digital camera to capture and keep every happy moment in your life? And do you never miss any movies which can be free downloaded from torrent sites, such as Pirate Bay, Vuze, etc. to fully enjoy digital life? That’s wonderful digital experience, but to keep these movies and life memory forever is suffering, isn’t it? ‘Cause either your digital camera’s memory or your PC hardware has a limit, so many digital lovers keep asking how to burn digital Camera/torrent files to DVD:

    Q1: My torrent downloads are always in the .avi format. I would like to play these movies in a regular DVD player, but I don’t know how to burn the DVD on my computer (running on Windows 7).

    Q2: I’ve shot the movie myself using a camera, it is a two hour long .avi file. All I want is to be able to shove it in the DVD player (in the living room) and for it to automatically play.
    A: That’s true, most videos shot by digital camera, and most free downloaded movies from torrent are in AVI formats. A good and easy way to keep these videos and movies forever is to burn AVI files to DVD which makes easier for you to watch these videos on your DVD player without any hitch.

    That’s easy to finish the whole task, first of all, let’s look at all the things you will need to burn AVI movies to a DVD.

    1. Things You’ll Need to burn AVI files to DVD
    AVI to DVD Burner software
    A black DVD disc
    A PC running on Windows OS (including the latest Windows7)
    A PC with DVD Burner

    2. How to find a good AVI to DVD Burner?

    Actually, there are a lot of AVI to DVD conversion software, please never get a one without free trying first. Before making a purchase decision, you can get recommendations from professionals, friends, etc. And the most import thing is to get a free trail by yourself. In fact, I have tried a lot of such software, but for the sake of simplicity and stability, I will present you such a conversion tool which works well to convert AVI format to DVD on windows 7.

    3. Steps to burn AVI files to a DVD on windows 7

    Step 1: Free download AVI to DVD Burner
    Please free download this Windows 7 AVI to DVD Burner, install and run it. And insert a DVD disc to your PC.

    Step 2: Add AVI files
    Add AVI videos or movies by clicking “Add Video” button.

    Step 3:Set DVD menu
    Select your AVI files, then hit “Burn DVD” button at the bottom of the interface, and then check “Next”, you can select DVD menu from built-in “Menu Template”, and you can set background music and picture for your DVD menu by checking the related option to customize your DVD menu. Here I set the background picture by adding a picture from your PC. If you want to preview your DVD movies, you can click “Play” to make a preview.

    Step 4: Start to burn AVI files to DVD
    After everything is done, you can click “Next” to select your DVD burner from “Burn to” option. Then, you can hit “Start” to burn AVI files to DVD.

    Tips:
    Here below is the explanation of TV Standard:
    “NTSC” is 30 fps, which is used in USA, Canada and Japan;
    “PAL” is 25fps, which is used in Europe and Asia.

    That’s all, after the conversion is done, you can watch your torrent movies or digital camera videos on your DVD player.

  • I was thinking about using this mount to mount my Imax up in my pine tree. Heavy duty and puts antenna 12 inches out from tree. Its at Radio Shack. Designed to wall mount antennas into wood. What do you guys think?

  • Link za download igrice :

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2NYJLUUX

  • I am about to use a 240320DL monochrome display but can't find an FPC connector that fits. The pcb is about 14mm wide which won't fit into any of the connectors I have found.

  • I am looking over the internet to find out how to build a tilt over antenna mount for a vertical antenna. Antenna would way no more than 20 to 25 lbs.

  • On reading the good www.eham.com reviews of this W5GI antenna . I'm ready for second opinions ? This W5GI is a G5RV variant, that is said to work better than the G5RV on all bands, both are multi band antennas with design frequency for 20 meters . I wonder if the W5GI is a better multi band antenna as the reviews say , and how much better is it on 75 meters than the G5RV ? Also if the W5GI design frequency was 40 meters and not 20 meters , will it continue to be a multi band antenna ?

  • I have been brooding over a design for a 20m directional antenna for some time, and wanted your guy's input. This antenna is going to be at the top of a tree, and so will be subject to high winds, hail, and branches smashing against it. Specifically, input on mounting ideas would be great. (See below posts for more details)

    The physical constraints include:
    * Light weight (shooting for 5lbs, 10lb max)
    * compact, with a element space less than ~10 feet.
    * stealthy
    *Strong elements, as they'll be buffeted by branches, but with some spring. (even if they're bent by branches, they bend back to original shape)

    I am trying to optimize for:
    * max gain @ low radiation angle
    * massive 3db beamwidth
    * electrically switchable directions
    * full 360 degree coverage

    Some ideas for construction I have are:
    1) 15-5 or 17-4 stainless steel rod @ .25 inch diameter - expensive, but yield strength is ~140k PSI. I am also seriously looking at 316 stainless tube with a taper (.3125" --> .25" --> .1875"). Less strength, but still very strong @ 60k PSI.
    For efficiency and weight, I may go with 6061-T6 Aluminum tube. @ 40k PSI
    2) 2-tone dull gray/brown paint for elements inside the branches and dull gray/blue paint for protruding elements, to reduce visibility. Elements would be properly primered before painting.
    3) Fiberglass boom, if weight can be kept down. Any strong boom materials @ lower weight? (besides Carbon Fiber)
    If it comes down to it, I'll invest the $$$ to go Carbon Fiber, as it is the best material available for its weight.

    Some designs I've considered seriously:
    ****EDIT: a 20m 4-square array with 20m dipoles. Possibly a phased triangular array.
    * 2-element yagi with U-shaped elements on a short boom, with each element fed and switchable.
    * 5/8 wave 20m vertical
    * 1/4 wave 20m vertical (enhances stealthiness at cost of gain)

    I am going with a tree beam for numerous reasons:
    * cost - much cheaper than tower
    * stealth - less visible = less neighbor visibility = less headache
    * height - see cost, the ft/$ ratio is much more optimal.
    * the tree is very climbable

    Anyone have ideas, suggestions?

  • I am going to be putting up a T6 log periodic on my garage roof. Do to limitations it will be 13 ft above the roof and 30 feet above the ground.
    I plan on guying in four places.

    I was thinking of using phillystran for guying but a ham friend said he didn't think it was necessary.

    So I thought I would ask if anyone had thoughts on using phillystran vs wire for guying..

    Thanks,

  • I was talking to a guy, said that 250Ft stainless steel wire antenna, dose not need a Turner at all. and would work on all bands.

    Has anyone ever heard this.

    I can get stainless steel cable around 1/8" on a spool 250 to 500ft.

  • Some of the Wireless Outback DX Crew, KZ4G members, spent today building 2 meter j-poles for the upcoming tailgate ham fest that the River Cities Amateur Radio Assn http://www.rcara.org will be having in April.

    When they completed their first one, I was contacted by phone to set up a sked so that the antenna could be tested. They were using a 5 watt ht on 146.520 mhz. There is about 8 air miles between us with 3 hill ridges as well.

    They tried the antenna on the outside of their work shop and I first received an s-1 low audio on my RS HTX-212 using a very old RS Discone antenna that is up 10 feet. Yes this was advertised as a scanner antenna.

    After a short discussion with them I told them to turn the antenna like it was a beam until they got the strongest signal on me. Their signal went from the reported S-1 to an S-5 and audio came up 200% from what was first received. A great increase, wouldn't you say?

    This is the 5th J-pole that I have helped with testing and the results have been about the same for them all.

    If you work 2 meters or 440 and you are worried about the cost of a good antenna and/or you just want to tinker, I believe you can do good with the j-pole.

  • Here is my secret project everyone! My Cobra 2000 GTL with dual CA-2000 speakers has been famous  on YouTube for a few years. Now with all of the new features of the radio being just there none was extended to the speakers. As a whole the quest was on what to do. I first thought to have red lights from behind the speaker grill to create a glow but it would take a good amount and the pattern would not be just right. That idea was scraped. Red pilot lights were on my mind but which ones. Visited a local Irving-Circle K truck stop in Fairfield, Maine and the RoadPro red 12 volt Pilot Light RP-4055 caught my eye. This lights are $7.00 for a pair. No plastic but metal with real nice trim housing! These lights are quality and offer a smooth type of light and goes well with the radio's features. All of the LED light bars, speaker pilot lights and custom echo box are all powered using a Pyramid PS-7KX power supply. As of 02.07.2010 this radio will be known as "Lord of the Jungle" version. Below are a few pictures of my project and more complete pictures are on my Facebook site.

  • Hi..

    I own a studio, and am looking to outsource my microphone to the shed outside, behind my home. The problem I encounter is not being able to control/ visually see whats going on on my computer which will stay in the house. I will not be able to use VNC on my iphone because i lose signal when i'm in the shed. Is there a way for me to extend the wireless from my router? could i purchase another router (wireless) and have it running from my primary router out to my shed so I can use my iphone to control the recording program in my computer?

    Thanks

  • right ok, for the last week or so my laptop has had problems connecting to my router(Netgear WPN824) such as sometime it won connect and sometimes it will but when i try to load web pages just says problem loading page, now the icon with 2 computer screens and the blue ball in bottom rght corner shows the wireless is connected but doesnt connect, so today i go to pc world and explain they say my router is broke, so i buy another router(WNR2000) and for a couple of hours its fine then it disconnects and this time the icon in bottom corner shows its disconnected.

    can anyone help or have any idea what and where the problem lies.

    also could the security key cause these problems, or the router firmware not being up to date?

  • New here. SO,I hope this is in the right section. Heres my problem today.

    My isp is my city electricity company. I had a dynamic ip address. I needed it changed,due to a few issues caused by friends and others.
    After a few conversations with tech support,the company assigned me a static address.
    So I do as they said and reboted,nothing changed. Went into network and sharing. Manually entered new ip,subnet mask,and default gateway. But they gave me no dns server #s to enter. ANd the box to assign automatically will not highlight.

    SO I called tech support back. ANd am now awaiting their call with help.

    SO,is there something I did wrong? How do I remedy the issue?

    Oh, I dont use a wireless router,ethernet only.

  • Hey guys.

    I have just gotten home from school and I have been having problems loading web pages. I have tried IE, Chrome, and Firefox to load CF.org, but it always takes at least 30 seconds to load. I have restarted my router and modem. Can someone tell me what's going on?

    Thanks.

  • My stepmom has a laptop at her house, and i want to be able to access her computer from my house... probably 5 miles away...how would i be able to do that

  • Having a very weird problem.

    I'm on Virgin Media on a wired connection to a roter, and whenever I'm away from the PC for about 5 minutes, the Internet seems to auto disconnect.

    Programs like Spotify/MSN/Skype auto disconnect

    Is there any program that will mimick me being there and stop this happening?
    Or a setting somewhere?

  • So today I found out it would just be cheaper to use a wireless network instead of a wired, bought the wireless adapter for the desktop and so fourth. Hooked up the printer to the wireless router and for some reason the adapter on my computer reads the printer's signal as an internet signal, there for not allowing me to add it as a printer....IM LOST...

    Any suggestions on how to fix this...?

  • Hello to all,

    I am trying to figure out the best design for my 80M full wave loop.

    I have a roof of 10m x 30m but I would like to use just 10m x 20m.

    Therefore I have searched the internet for some geometric shapes that could represent a big area inside the loop.

    I have found this cross design [formee pattee] that migth work on my roof.

    I have one concern: the wires that make the cross itself... How many degrees I have to use in order the wires doesn't interact with themselves?

    Will this design work [imagine it more like a rectangle rather than a square] or should I search another design with a bigger angle amplitude?

    I also added the same design but with right angles, for your appreciation.

    Cheers and thanks in advanced!

  • Hi all,

    I am interested in building a vertically polarized delta loop for working 20M CW, optimized for N/S orientation so I can get my signal into Asia. I have, however, enough room at the location for a 30M loop.

    Would it be better to build the smaller, resonant antenna for 20M, or size it up for 30M and expect to work 20 with a tuner? Obviously I would not have 30 with the smaller loop, but that's OK.

    I have done some modeling and the patterns look alright. Thoughts?

  • Hello to all

    What is the big difference between a OCF antenna and a Windom antenna?

    What type of baluns to they use?

  • Hi all,
    OK, finally got permission from adjacent building to use it & a qualified installer, legal requirement (also a ham) to put up a wire about 65' long, he went on holiday but will be back. Have a SGC-239 which he's put in a good weatherproof box for me. Now the problem, can't put a ground rod in because of all the underground utilities. My outside wall is 6.5m so how are we going to set up a radial/counterpoise system? Disabled so the MFJ Artificial Ground no good & out of pocket unless they come up with an auto version pretty soon. Take a look at the map/satellite at my QTH. Any ideas gratefully appreciated.

  • So, I bought an HTX-10 last week. Now for the antenna. Since the XYL doesn't like the idea of an antenna being hung outside, I'm considering a dipole in the attic. I plan on making it out of 14 ga solid copper wire ( I already have), fed with RG-58. Since I'm only a tech, I was going to tune it for 28.4, once I upgrade, I can retune it for the middle of the band.
    What kind of performance can I likely expect from this setup? Is there a better setup that I should consider? Would something like an inverted V stapled to the back side of the eaves work any better?

    Appreciate any suggestions.

  • I'm just starting out in ham and I got the stuff to make a HF antenna.
    (hopefully I pass my general this weekend so I can use it).

    In the mean time I have the stuff to make a single dipole for use with 10-80M with primary focus on 10-20M which length would be best to use in conjunction with a FT-100 tuner?

    As in, is it better to make a longer antenna and tune it, or better to make a short antenna and tune it?

    tnx

  • I have antenna restrictions at my condo, live on the second floor, and have a south facing wooden patio which is 34 feet long. There's a wooden railing, 4 feet high. I'm at 7,000 feet in a plateau surrounded by 10,000 and 14,000 foot mountains. I'm thinking of a halfwave 20 meter dipole, which at about 33 feet would let me stretch it horizontally across the patio next to the railing. I have a Yaesu ft-840 and a MFJ Deluxe Versa Tuner II that has a built in 4:1 balun. Now I'm wondering if I should run rg-8 coax or 300 or 450 ohm twin or ladder line? The length of the run would be about 50 feet. I would also have to take this down quickly in case the complex maintenance guy comes snooping around. Any other antenna that would be obvious is out of the question. Ideas?

  • I have been brooding over a design for a 20m directional antenna for some time, and wanted your guy's input. This antenna is going to be at the top of a tree, and so will be subject to high winds, hail, and branches smashing against it. Specifically, input on mounting ideas would be great. It will be attached to a ~3-4 inch diameter trunk.

    * Light weight (shooting for 5lbs, 10lb max)
    * compact, with a element space less than ~10 feet.
    * stealthy
    *Strong elements, as they'll be buffeted by branches, but with some spring. (even if they're bent by branches, they bend back to original shape)

    I am trying to optimize for:
    * max gain @ low radiation angle
    * massive 3db beamwidth
    * electrically switchable directions
    * full 360 degree coverage

    **** two vertically oriented 2-element, short-boom 20m antennas, with elements sticking up out of tree to reduce branch entanglement (and dual fed elements to allow switching). I would go with 2 yagis, 90 degrees oriented to each other using 316 stainless tube. If I went with 17-4 stainless rod, I'd keep to one yagi for weight constraints. Going with a vertical yagi would enhance the "broadness" of the 3db beamwidth.

    * 2-element yagi with U-shaped elements on a short boom, with each element fed and switchable.
    * 5/8 wave 20m vertical

  • CubeSats (Powering CubeSats)                                                                                                                                                 An electric propulsion technology for miniature satellites aims to give them more mobility and may eventually allow them to take on deep-space missions.
    CubeSats are relatively cheap to deploy: While launching a rocket may cost between $50 million and $300 million, a CubeSat can “piggyback” onto a large rocket platform at an additional cost of as little as $40,000. But their small size also means they lack on-board propulsion systems, which is why they generally remain locked to a particular Low Earth Orbit.
    Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) could lead to the development of a tiny propulsion system shows that would enable CubeSats to travel to far higher orbits which for Radio Amateurs would enable contacts over far greater longer distances.
    The propulsion system takes electricity from the CubeSat batteries or a solar panel and applies it to a tiny structure roughly the size of a postage stamp. This thin panel is made of about 1,000 porous metal structures that resemble needles and have several grams of the ionic liquid on them.
    By applying voltage to the needles, an electric field is created that extracts the ions from the liquid, accelerates them at very high speeds and forces them to fly away. This process creates an ionic force strong enough to produce thrust.
